Comparison Shopping Engine player Bizrate has announced product level bidding.  According to their email:

"We have moved your bids from the old bidding tool to the new bidding tool

Your subcategory bid will be the bid for each of your products in that subcategory until you change it. Bids in your datafeed will continue to override bids placed in the bidding tool.

You may place different bids on individual or groups of products.

You can find products using the new search, navigation and filtering tools we've provided in the new bidding tool."

This is a great feature merchants can certainly take advantage off.  Though I can think of other ways to improve ranking of a product other than paying extra money.
